For Friends & Family

It can be very difficult to hear that a friend or loved one has been a victim of sexual violence. It is important to provide support for them. It is also very important to take care of yourself.

If you know someone who has been assaulted, you are what we call a “secondary survivor.” (The person who was assaulted is a “primary survivor.”) Secondary survivors can be anyone – the victim’s partner, boyfriend, girlfriend, parents, sister, brother, friend, or more. As a secondary survivor, it is normal to have reactions like anger, fear, or sadness.

The Center provides free and confidential services to primary and secondary survivors. We can provide emotional support, information, support groups, and therapy referrals for you or your loved one. It is hard to help your loved one if you are struggling. Please call us at 1-866-WE LISTEN for information about how we can help you or your loved one. You can also find out more about our services here.
